The INTER Group originated with the joint work of a group of professors and scholarship students in the Departments of Research and Diagnostic Methods in Education (MIDE I and MIDE II) in the Faculty of Education at the National Distance Education University (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, UNED). The group has become consolidated over the years, from 1995 to today. Since 1999, it has been part of the Community of Madrid network of research groups (madri+d).

Those of us who make up the group are interested in promoting teaching and research in areas related to cultural diversity and education. These activities involve teaching and/or collaboration in Doctoral and Masters courses, continuing training courses, and courses in the degrees offered by the Faculty of Education.

Through our participation as coordinators in the INTER Project (Socrates – Comenius Program, European Commission), the group has grown to include people belonging to different Spanish and European institutions. Since the 2002/2003 academic year, the INTER group has taught a Doctoral Program on “Diversity and Equality in Education” (Faculty of Education, UNED) which has reinforced our collaboration with institutions such as the Higher Council of Scientific Research (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC) and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Since the 2011/12 academic year, the INTER group has taught an official Master Programme, Euro-Latin American Master’s Degree in Intercultural Education.

The INTER Group has been awarded in different ocassions:

  • First Evens Prize for Intercultural Education 2005, awarded by the Evens Foundation to Inter Project: a practical guide to implement intercultural education, for its contribution to social integration in Europe in the field of intercultural education.
